The work of Paul Politis aims for simplicity. He finds that what attracts him most to composing an image is the geometrical patterns he sees within the scene, whether within a wide scene or a detail. He is in a constant battle to unlearn his 'natural' way of seeing, and to attempt to divorce his assumptions and the assumptions of others, from what he is looking at through his camera lens.
Although he prefers to shoot in available light and natural settings, he does shoot in his makeshift studio from time to time, particularly for Nude work.
In his Nudes, Paul brings the same concepts with him to the studio. Although his professed aim is to glamourize the female form, it is not as the typical "glamour photographer" would attempt to do it, where one female body after another is conspicuous in their homogenized, airbrushed sameness. His interest lies in showing the beauty of the female form in all its reality and uniqueness.
Paul currently lives in Ottawa, Canada.
Although shot using traditional cameras and negatives, the images are then scanned into the computer where Paul prepares the final photograph. All photographs are digitally printed on archival photo-weight paper using Epson® hardware and inks for optimum print finish and maximum life. Epson® testing indicates a print life in excess of 70 years when properly displayed. That is, for best longevity, prints should be over matted and mounted under glass. They should not be displayed in direct sunlight.
All available images are sold in limited editions of 50, regardless of the sizes of the images sold.
